Sometimes we may not wish to display the title of a DotNetNuke module. The value of the title is defined using the [title] tag within the container layout.container. Here I have Presented two approaches for removing the title from a module.

Display Properties for the Container

This is the easiest option, but may not be the desired result. This will result in the module not being rendered within a surrounding container. The content will therefore be presented bare on the page.

  1. Login to your DotNetNuke website, ensuring that you have administration permissions to gain acces to the properties of your module.
  2. Select the Settings opton from the drop down list ofp actions.
  3. On version 3 of DotNetNuke we need to expose the Page Settings, click on the expand/contract icon alongside this heading.
  4. Scroll down until you find the Display Container option. Uncheck this option.
  5. Click on the Update at the bottom of the page.

The title will have been removed from your module. However, as I said previously, the module will have lost its container rendering.

Modify/Create a new Container

This is the more complicated of the two approaches and is reliant on you having an account which has the necessary permissions to upload a new container to your DotNetNuke portal. There is a restriction in the Host settings for DotNetNuke which can prevent the administrators of a portal from adding additional skins.

You will need a copy of the existing container. This is a zip file with the various components, at the minimum an html or ascx file, probably an XML file and possibly a number of images. I am proposing that we create a new container which is based on the existing one. I will assume that the zip file of your container contains an HTML file (the approach for an ASCX file is similar).

  1. Make a copy of the HTML file with perhaps a number, for example copy container.html to container2.html.
  2. Do likewise for the XML and CSS files of the same name, should they exist.
  3. Using a text editor (notepad would be good, avoid the use of Word) remove [TITLE]
  4. Save the file and add it together with the files you copied at step 2 into the zip file.
  5. We will now upload our container to the server, navigate to the Admin Skin tab and select upload container. Select the zip file from your local computer, and add it to the list box. Finally Upload the file. Take a look through the reported actions to ensure thatthere are no errors reported.
  6. Having added our modified container to our DotNetNuke portal we now want to change our module settings. Navigate to the page with the module where we are going to remove the title.
  7. Select the module settings from the pop-up list of actions.
  8. Expand the Page Settings
  9. Scroll down to the Module container properties and click on the Site radio button. At this point the page will refresh.
  10. Select you modified container from the dropdown list.
  11. Finally click on the Update link at the bottom of the page.

Your container for the module has now been changed to your modified one, without the tag for the title. Do be careful when selecting Upload Container.
